Mancala originated from Africa and is considered to be the oldest board game in the world. It was originally played in the sand with hand dug pits or bowl shapes cut into rock, and played using shells, seeds or coffee beans. Since that time, there have been many different shapes and styles of Mancala board arrangement. In fact even ancient furniture pieces incorporating the board game. So, this is our take on this timeless classic board game. A real family favourite which will be enjoyed by players of all ages. Even as young as 3 years old.

If you are familiar with this particular board game, you will know there are many versions of how to play the game. you may also know that Mancala has several alternative names, such as Ayò, Ayoayo, Awalé, Ouri, Ouril, Uril, Wali, Adji, Nchọ, Ókwè, ise and Awélé. The most common in English being Awari or Wari, but in the end it is simply Mancala.

These classic personalised wooden Mancala boards are each constructed from a single solid piece of locally sourced English Oak or Amish American Black walnut. They feature twelve carved circular bowls and two collecting oval shaped dishes to each end. The shape and finish of the board is to our own design and is silky smooth to the touch. These wooden board games are truly something special, using the finest carefully chosen timber of beautiful characteristic. No two boards will be the same and are more like stunning pieces of furniture than simple wooden mass produces game boards. The Mancala boards are constructed completely by hand, from scratch, to order in our Surrey Hills workshop by skilled craftsmen. No matter which timber you choose – the oak or the walnut – you will not be unhappy with the quality of the finish.
