Our largest oak rope swing

This elegant oak swing we have named our Porch Swing as it is unlike our traditional garden rope swings due to its size. This is a swings you can cover with a throw or sheep skin with a cushion and sit comfortably and gently sway back and forth.

The oak swing seat itself is huge, wider than most oak boards you can pick up from a sawmill. It is specially chosen for its wide spam, measuring 4.5cm thick x 40cm deep x 1 metre long. This swing is larger enough to take 2 people but designed to be more of a lounging style swing.

Because of the size of the oak swing seat the ropes are fed in and out in eight places creating two large loops. These loops are then collected and tied off with a beautiful spliced knot which becomes the rope used to hang the swing. The effect is stunning.

These beautiful personalised wooden swings are handmade to order, from scratch in our Surrey Hills workshop. They will make the best wedding gift or 5th anniversary gift or if you want something a little different to sit on in your garden. If you have a substantial tree this swing can be huge from the branches or if you are planning to hang it from a pergola or frame this is also perfect.

Finish:

As with everything we do here at Make Me Something Special, we have spent the time researching and sourcing the perfect materials available. Each oak swing is handmade from one piece of Air Dried Superior Grade English Oak. This Timber is perfectly seasoned and adjusted for outdoor conditions. You can choose to leave your swing untreated, finished in Superior Danish Oil or our low maintenance Diamond Coating finish. If you choose untreated your product will weather to a pale silver more quickly. Danish Oil will not only treat the timber but also bring out the timbers natural colour. This has a UV filter to protect the timber but it does require regular upkeep. 2 – 4 times a year to keep it looking its best. Diamond Coating is more glossy but a lot more harder wearing and only requires a top up once a year, however this depend on the weather and where the product is placed. We would recommend twice a year if you want full protection. Top up kits can be ordered over the phone or on our website – see here. 

Our Rope:

All of our personalised oak garden swings come fitted with 5 metres of Synthetic Hemp Rope (on both sides). The rope is handmade in the UK by experts. The rope is a strong marine quality that is mellow in colour, soft to touch, and being synthetic it won’t swell, shrink or rot, unlike natural rope. Longer lengths of rope are available if required, please let us know how much you need.

All Swings come ready to hang. You can tie your oak swing directly from a tree branch or we can supply marine quality fittings, ideal for adjustment without having to climb the tree. They can also be hung from frames, porches and other such like.

Personalisation:

Our tree swings are available blank with standard engraving or can be personalised with your own personal message. Up to 50 characters per side. You can also add carved hearts, stars and other engraved motifs. Take a look at the options available to you – Engraving options.

We can also engrave a secret or personal message for you on the underside of your swing, making your tree swing that little bit extra special.
