This large Carving Board with poring spout, handmade from solid Walnut made everyone’s mouth drop when we began applying the finishing oil. The timber’s grain is just breathtaking.

America Black Walnut is considered the most highly prized of all the hardwoods. It is regularly used in fine furniture making, jewelry box making and other high quality wooden gifts. The reason is an obvious one – it’s a stunning timber!

The grain structure is very figured  and the natural colours vary from dark blacks right the way to blondes with hints of deep purple and grain has dramatic contrasts from long streaks to quilted silk-like ripples.

We have been using Walnut to make our engraved kitchen boards since we began back in 2000 and is one of the most popular timber options we currently offer. Walnut is also very popular with our personalised chopping boards and bread boards.

We think if you have an oak worktop in your kitchen and you are look for a hard wearing good quality chopping board, why not a have something that stands out.

Another thing about Walnut is the quality of the finish it gives you and not just the board itself but the engraving come out so clear and crisp.

The reason is the grain structure is so tight, similar to Beech and Cherry that when we cut through the fibers of the timber, because they are so fine and tightly packed, very little swarf is left behind and the surface requires only a light sand.

Once we have completed all of our carving and groove work and handles have been cut, we begin our very long finishing process. A process that takes a minimum of 48 hours.

When our personalised kitchen boards are finished they look as if the surface of the board has been enamelled.
