Finish: Untreated, Superior Danish Oil or Diamond Coating
Aftercare: Product maintenance is very important. If you have chosen your product to be left untreated, your product will fade to a pale silver in time. We recommend a pressure wash or a sand once a year to remove any moss or unwanted mess on the timber and then treat with an exterior oil to slow down decay.
Danish Oil – If you have chosen Danish oil we recommend you continue to treat your product with Danish oil or similar timber treatment oil to protect the timber and stop it drying out. This will also help to prevent staining, discolouration, cracking and warping.
Dimond Coating – If you have chosen Dimond Coating, top up kits can be purchased on our website or over the phone. We would recommend you treat your product once a year minimum. Twice a year if you want to maintain full protection.
About Timber: Natural timber will always want to move. It’s going to expand and shrink as the temperature and humidity changes in your home and outside, rest assured it won’t change drastically. Small hairline splits may occur as your product ages, this is completely normal and is regarded as part of the timbers natural beauty. As the seasons change you may see some movement in your product, again this is completely normal.
Air-dried oak: Your product has been made using Air-dried timber. This is has been seasoned for outdoor conditions. Do not keep exterior products indoors.
Our slate signs are finished with a protective layer of iron wax for a hard wearing, long lasting, quality finish.

Our new range of printed vinyl signs is something special! The most impressive part is the combination of a printed sign and our beautifully handmade oak posts and frame, making the overall finish of our signs eye-catching and extremely sturdy. Just like with our solid oak engraved signs – Premium is when handmade personalised signs go to another level. These stunning high-quality printed signs feature huge elegant oak posts, designed to make your free-standing sign stand out from the crowd.
The same material used on vans and shop signs – Vinyl is waterproof and will last for years without any maintenance. What’s wonderful is you can have lettering as well as logos, coloured artwork, and tiny and layered detail, which working with timber alone can’t be achieved. All you have to do is upload your artwork when ordering your sign, or email it to us after your order is placed. We will require Hi-Res good quality artwork in order to print the sign.
We supply these handcrafted printed signs in a range of standard sizes. The sign plaques range from 15cm high – up to – 100cm high. The width of the sign will range from 50cm – up to – 100cm depending on your artwork and lettering. See our sign dimensions below:
We can also make bespoke size signs to suit your specific requirements. All our signs are handmade in the UK so please feel free to ask if you want something a little different than standard.
When ordering your free-standing business sign you have the option of having the sign plaque mounted between 2 oak posts at either end or with an oak frame set at the top and bottom of the sign plaque. The frame provides extra stability whilst enhancing the look of the sign.
Each sign comes with 60cm of oak post protruding below the printed sign plaque. However, you can choose to increase the length of the posts to change the height of your sign, giving you the option of having your sign close to the ground or plenty of clearance should you need it – to be above a wall or hedge for example. When it comes to placing your sign, if you are not using any post-ground fixings then you must allow for the additional post to go into the ground. We recommend a minimum of 25cm for the Small and Medium to go into the ground, 30-40cm for the Large and 50cm for the XLarge sign. We would also recommend filling it with concrete for stability and security reasons.
As with everything we do here at Make Me Something Special, we have spent the time researching and sourcing the perfect materials available. Each oak sign is handmade from one piece of Air Dried Superior Grade English Oak. This Timber is perfectly seasoned and adjusted for outdoor conditions. You can choose to leave your sign untreated, finished in Superior Danish Oil or our low-maintenance Diamond Coating finish. If you choose untreated your product will weather to a pale silver more quickly. Danish Oil will not only treat the timber but also bring out the timber’s natural colour. This has a UV filter to protect the timber but it does require regular upkeep. 2 – 4 times a year to keep it looking its best.
Diamond Coating is more glossy but a lot harder wearing and only requires a top up once a year, however, this depends on the weather and where the product is placed. We would recommend twice a year if you want full protection. Top up kits can be ordered over the phone or on our website – see here.
