Finish: Untreated, Superior Danish Oil or Diamond Coating
Aftercare: Product maintenance is very important. If you have chosen your product to be left untreated, your product will fade to a pale silver in time. We recommend a pressure wash or a sand once a year to remove any moss or unwanted mess on the timber and then treat with an exterior oil to slow down decay.
Danish Oil – If you have chosen Danish oil we recommend you continue to treat your product with Danish oil or similar timber treatment oil to protect the timber and stop it drying out. This will also help to prevent staining, discolouration, cracking and warping.
Dimond Coating – If you have chosen Dimond Coating, top up kits can be purchased on our website or over the phone. We would recommend you treat your product once a year minimum. Twice a year if you want to maintain full protection.
About Timber: Natural timber will always want to move. It’s going to expand and shrink as the temperature and humidity changes in your home and outside, rest assured it won’t change drastically. Small hairline splits may occur as your product ages, this is completely normal and is regarded as part of the timbers natural beauty. As the seasons change you may see some movement in your product, again this is completely normal.
Air-dried oak: Your product has been made using Air-dried timber. This is has been seasoned for outdoor conditions. Do not keep exterior products indoors.
Our slate signs are finished with a protective layer of iron wax for a hard wearing, long lasting, quality finish.

Our high quality charcoal grey slate house signs are perfect for anyone wanting simplicity, elegance and sophistication. These clear cut, rectangular shape signs are pleasing to the eye and allows you to display your house name clearly. Handmade from natural slate, our freestanding engraved slate house sign are unique and will keep its stunning look for years to come.
Each sign is handmade from polished welsh slate and mounted to silky smooth English oak posts – the perfect combination. Slate signs look great but if you are not planning to mount them to a wall, gate or fence then you need posts in order to display your house or business sign. Oak is a hardwearing material and sets off the slate nicely. It really is a beautiful way to show the name of your house or business.
We supply these handcrafted slate signs in two standard sizes. 15cm high slate sign plaque for engraved lettering on 1 line, or a 25cm high slate sign for lettering over 2 lines. We can also make bespoke engraved slate signs in the uk so please feel free to ask if you want something a little different than standard.
Every letter of our slate signs are sandblasted creating a deep profile letter that is clear to read and perfectly finished. You have the option of having the first lettering larger than the rest of the lettering.
You can also request carved motifs if you want to make your sign that little bit more special and unique to you. please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Like with our engraved oak signs we offer the lettering with a choice of hand painted colours. Choose from white or gold paint infill. For the most eye-catching colour, we would recommend the white paint infill.
When ordering your personalised engraved slate sign you have the option of having the slate sign plaque mounted between 2 oak posts at either end, or with an oak frame set at the top and bottom of the slate sign plaque. The frame provides extra stability whilst enhancing the look of the sign.
We offer our posts in three lengths, giving you the option of having your sign close to the ground or plenty of clearance should you need it – to be above a wall or hedge for example.
Choose a post length of – 60cm tall or 1.2 metres tall. These posts sizes are the total height, include what you will need to put into the ground and also the area where the sign is mounted.
As with everything we do here at Make Me Something Special, we have spent the time researching and sourcing the perfect materials available. Each oak sign is handmade from one piece of Air Dried Superior Grade English Oak. This Timber is perfectly seasoned and adjusted for outdoor conditions. You can choose to leave your sign untreated, finished in Superior Danish Oil or our low maintenance Diamond Coating finish. If you choose untreated your product will weather to a pale silver more quickly. Danish Oil will not only treat the timber but also bring out the timbers natural colour. This has a UV filter to protect the timber but it does require regular upkeep. 2 – 4 times a year to keep it looking its best. Diamond Coating is more glossy but a lot more harder wearing and only requires a top up once a year, however this depend on the weather and where the product is placed. We would recommend twice a year if you want full protection. Top up kits can be ordered over the phone or on our website – see here.

When it comes to placing your sign, we recommend you place 20 – 40cm into the ground and fill with concrete for stability and security reasons.
