Hand Carving in Oak and Height Charts

Mighty oaks from little Acorns grow…

During lunch today one of our team sat quietly and carved from a scrap of English Oak a beautiful Acorn using only small carving knife.

We had just be finishing moments earlier, one of our early original products which we last made back in November 2000 – The engraved oak wall mounted height chart. Ironically, the customer ordering this had asked us to engrave a saying on one of the sides.

This beautiful personalised oak height chart was ordered at The Country Living Show, Islington, London, with metric and imperial engraved edges. The family names are carved at the top and the ‘Mighty Oak’ saying engraved on the side.

These handcrafted solid wood height charts measure over 2 meters in height and 22cm wide, plenty of space to record the whole family. All you have to do is write with a black marker or silver pen the name, date and height of your babies.

They fix to the wall with the use of our very sturdy wall fittings, four of them placed at the top and bottom of the chart, so once it is in place it isn’t going anywhere. The best thing about our wall fittings is, once up, you don’t see any screws or metal fittings at all, just a b beautiful wooden height chart hanging on your wall.

It was as always a labour of love. The oak is sanded until beautifully smooth, then oiled with three coats of Superior Danish Oil given the timber great colour and protection but most of all a good long lasting, hard wearing finish.

We did enjoy making one of these again and are in discussions of bringing it back as one of our standard products.
