Engraved Oak Bookends

Here at Make Me Something Special we have been making engraved oak bookends in our Surrey Hills workshop for several years now and have been commissioned to add beautiful engravings on them.

Our wooden Bookends are very thick and weighty, ideal for holding a vast stack of books without faulting. Even if one Oak Bookend is used – on a shelf say, they can support a descent amount.

Our solid Oak Bookends can be personalised with engraved names, dates or even poems or special messages. A good quality pair of Bookends make a stunning gift for birthdays, weddings, christening and anniversaries, especially when engraving that personal message.

A very recent order came in which proved to be a challenge. The idea was to engrave an entire poem across a pair of oak Bookends. Something we have done before but not so intricate and time-consuming. I have to say – we love this sort of thing.

The lettering here is only 3mm tall with things like punctuation a fraction of this size. The carved letters making up the poem is a delicate process and when cutting many factors come into play. The Bookend surface has to be perfectly flat – and I mean perfect! If it is out by as little as 0.2 of a millimetre you will not get consistent lettering especially at this size.

Of course our wooden Bookends look just as good with a classic pair of initials on the front.
