Great British Bake Off

This has to be my most favourite time of the year..

There are still some warm days left to enjoy before we begin to hibernate and fill up on rich warming stews and colourful homemade soups. I love that i am still able to sit in the garden, and smell the last of the roses permeating the warm air, sneaking a cheeky glass of Rosé and finishing off another great read …but i also really look forward to wearing boots and cosy jumpers, snuggling on the sofa with Ben and the children in front of the fire, with candles softly lighting up the room and playing board games…..if there were one word to describe me, it would be Hygge ( google it :-))

But the real reason i love this time of year is because its the start of the new series of the Great British Bake Off! I am a real foodie. Being half Portuguese half English, i grew up with my mum making all these wonderful Mediterranean meals from scratch. She wasn’t very keen on following a recipe, just add a bit of this and a bit of that… so baking was never really her thing. Being the youngest of 8 children i learnt quite early on how to bake. I loved to follow recipes and create lots of wonderful and tasty things. My mum taught me how to cook from the heart and and my dad taught me how to follow a recipe…so i have the best of both worlds. I always make everything we eat from scratch – meals, puddings, cakes…even bread. Im very proud of my creations, so i  love to display them as best as i can. This is when i decided to create ‘something special’ and came up with the idea of a Personalised Wooden Cake Stand and the Personalised Mini Cake Stand. These are just perfect to show off my fancy chocolate cakes or delicate lemon shortbreads. Each one is hand-crafted from our very special Amish American Oak and American Black Walnut from the Appalachian Region of New England, then they are put together completely by hand in our Surrey Hills Workshop with considerable care and attention to detail. GBBO has become a firm family favourite in the MMSS household. We love everything about it, from Mary and Paul’s onscreen chemistry, Mel and Sue’s banter and sneaky innuendos, to supporting our firm favourites that we have decided within 5 minutes of watching the first episode who we want to win…..and we don’t always agree!

We all snuggle up in front of the telly, with a pot of tea and a slice of cake or biscuits that me and the children have made just because, its Great British Bake Off day.
