Painted Free Standing Wooden House Sign Sizes:

Traditional stunning free-standing house signs, made to order in the UK. These wooden house signs are made by hand, from scratch, using locally-sourced Superior Grade English Oak, all in our Hampshire workshop.

We use the very finest English Oak, meaning our house signs are made to the highest of standards. The timber is hand-selected by us to make sure it is clean and perfect for manufacturing into beautiful engraved wooden house signs. All of our free-standing house signs come with one or two solid oak posts and in two sizes, giving you the flexibility for us to create you a house sign that suits your requirements.

Sign Sizes:

We offer two sizes in our standard house sign range. Our Small – 10cm tall and our Large sign – 20cm tall, allowing you to either have your house name engraved on one or two lines depending on how you want your house sign to look. The length of the sign plaque will vary due to the amount of lettering that is required. We will always allow plenty of room either side of your lettering to give your house sign a well-proportioned look. All of our sign plaques are 2.5cm thick and feature carved lettering 5cm tall – Please see the dimensions below:

1 or 2 Posts:

You can choose either a single post or two oak posts to have your sign mounted. The sizes of the posts are 5cm square by the length you choose, giving you the option of having your sign close to the ground or plenty of clearance should you need it – to be above a wall or hedge for example.

Choose a post length of – 60cm tall – up to – 1.2 metres tall. These posts sizes are the total height, include what you will need to put into the ground and also the area where the sign is mounted.

Personalise Your Free Standing Painted House Sign:

Our oak signs include your engraving. You can then choose to leave the lettering plain or have it paint filled. We offer White, Black and Grey. The paint application we supply is three coats of water-resistant acrylic paint.

Finish:

As with everything we do here at Make Me Something Special, we have spent the time researching and sourcing the perfect materials available. Each oak sign is handmade from one piece of Air Dried Superior Grade English Oak. This Timber is perfectly seasoned and adjusted for outdoor conditions. You can choose to leave your sign untreated, finished in Superior Danish Oil or our low maintenance Diamond Coating finish. If you choose untreated your product will weather to a pale silver more quickly. Danish Oil will not only treat the timber but also bring out the timbers natural colour. This has a UV filter to protect the timber but it does require regular upkeep. 2 – 4 times a year to keep it looking its best. Diamond Coating is more glossy but a lot more harder wearing and only requires a top up once a year, however, this depends on the weather and where the product is placed. We would recommend twice a year if you want full protection. Top up kits can be ordered over the phone or on our website – see here. 

Assembled or Unassembled:

You can choose to have your free-standing painted house sign fully assembled, ready to place or flat-packed. Fitting the sign to the post is a very simple process requiring only a couple of bolts. With fully assembled signs, screw fitting holes will be covered over with solid oak plugs.

Placing your Sign:

When it comes to placing your sign, we recommend you place it 20 – 40cm into the ground and fill it with concrete for stability and security reasons.

Small Sign – 1 post: 2.5cm thick x 10cm tall x 50cm wide (1” x 4” x 20”) ~ up to 20 characters

Small Sign – 2 posts: 2.5cm thick x 10cm tall x 50cm wide (1” x 4” x 20”) ~ up to 20 characters

Large Sign – 1 post: 2.5cm thick x 20cm tall x 50cm up to 1M wide (1” x 8” x 20” up o 40”) ~ up to 30 characters over two rows

Large Sign – 2 posts: 2.5cm thick x 20cm tall x 50cm up to 1M wide (1” x 8” x 20” up to 40”) ~ up to 30 characters over two rows
