Wedding Bespoke Engraved Wall Plaque
As I’m sure you’re aware, we specialise in personalised wooden gifts here at MakeMeSomethingSpecial, so we spend a lot of taking making 5th wedding anniversary gifts. Here is a personalised wall plaque we created for a customer for his 5th wedding anniversary.
The plaque is handmade from solid American Black Walnut in our Surrey Hills workshop, measuring 4.5cm thick x 25cm tall x 120cm long.
The plaque featured aspects of the couples wedding day, the church, the reception, the Bride and Groom and their child.
Firstly, The Bride & Groom:
This illustration was take from a picture of the happy couple, then carved directly into the timber. Them stood outside the church where they became man & wife.
Clandon Park. The front elevation in all its glory. We spend some time producing this amount of detail to create the well known building. Make Me Something Special’s engraving work is second to no one! We send many hours checking every detail, making sure everything is perfect and precise.
The personalised text:
The plaque featured the bride and grooms names and their wedding date but we also created a linked initial motif. This is something we often carve on our personalised wooden cheese boards, on the surface using a swirly script.
I do like these engraved initials, they are so simply yet so elegant. We have been asked to engrave these on so many of our products I have list count. It makes our beautiful wooden gifts that little bit more special and personal.
Next we have the church with the flock of doves leaving at the end of the ceremony.
You have to remember, each individual bird has to be draw and engraved one at a time. And this meter long plaque featured many.
They are very small in comparison to the rest of the details like the trees and buildings but the plaque wouldn’t be as special without them. They say God is in the detail and small little engraved shapes which is no more than a couple of lines makes such a difference.
Another bird featured on the 5th wedding anniversary plaque was a peacock, and there was more than one of these birds too.
A simple outline but again you know spright away what it is, and the grain of the timber add a depth to the illustration making it feel more 3D then it is.
American black walnut is such a lovely timber. We are now offering this timber on most of our range now due to high demand. It used to be only our personalised chopping boards that were available in this stunning Amish timber, but now you can have nearly everything.

Lastly, this stunning large wooden wall plaque in walnut featured the couples child and here he is playing with the birds. This like the couple was taken from a mobile phone photo that was emailed over as a late addition to the plaque. We sketched his outline, aged roughly 18 months old, and though it is only an outline, the simply detail makes him feel alive like in a painting.
This was one of the most detailed plaques we have every made and was fantastic to work on. As a 5th wedding anniversary gift, which we make every day of the week, this was the one of the longest and time consuming of the lot.
I love it!

Clandon Park sadly burn down a few years ago.
The illustration carved images were created from our clients personal pictures on the wedding day. Something sadly couple won’t be able to do in the near future.
